Careful planning is the cornerstone for success and AMS’s preconstruction experience ensures that projects get off to the right start. Working with our partners from a project’s inception promises a seamless transition from design to construction. AMS’s approach results in fewer change orders and schedule impacts yielding more cost savings.

We work alongside the project teams, clients, designers, and engineers during the earliest stages to maximize constructibility, evaluate building materials and methods, assess value engineering early designs, and provide conceptual budgets and schedules.

Because we partner with some of the nation’s most experienced design professionals, we can quickly assemble design-build teams with the right skills and expertise to satisfy any project’s specific requirements.

Whether the construction involves an apartment building or a railroad bridge, AMS drives the design process, and adds value with input on constructability, budget, appropriate methods and materials, and logistics.

Our fully-integrated design-build teams work with stakeholders (owner, designers, permitting authority, agencies, etc.) to enhance the design process from conception through certificate of occupancy. With full knowledge of project goals from the outset, we ensure that the visions of clients and end-users are executed flawlessly during construction.

AMS is a true general contractor, working directly for the owner to oversee subcontractors and sometimes self-performance.

Our skilled project teams are accustomed to self-performing site and civil work on some projects while using subcontractors with local market expertise on the balance. AMS project managers and superintendents are knowledgeable and experienced not just in their asset class, but also in local geography, sub markets, supply chain, and permitting.

We typically build 10 to 20 percent of our projects with our own forces. Keeping our employees and subcontracted forces safe is our primary focus, with safety training an essential component. Our training includes safety best practices, safety planning, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and safety policy training.

Construction management is an excellent alternative to the standard design-bid-build approach, particularly on large, complex projects involving multiple work areas and phases. As construction managers, we use our experience, knowledge, and resources to assist the owner in managing overall planning, design, and construction, and we serve as the primary point of contact from initial planning to project completion. We coordinate all project functions — estimating, value engineering, constructibility reviews, project operations and management, scheduling, cost control, quality control, and safety — to deliver a successful project.

Our Approach: We perform construction management projects with the same staffing, mindset and approach we apply as a general contractor. The result: more efficient projects constructed in less time and with greater quality. Our core values are always top of mind: a commitment to safety, excellence, high-value products and services, teamwork, honesty, and integrity.

Our Services: Our construction management services lead to more efficient designs, increased budget confidence, lower bid prices, fewer change orders, decreased construction times, and higher quality. To achieve these results, we must be actively engaged in the project during preconstruction and construction, providing detailed planning, coordination, and direction. We ensure effective communication among all project team members — owner, designers, general contractor, and subcontractors — and create efficiencies in time and cost without impacting quality.

AMS is one of the region’s leading fixed rail infrastructure contractors, delivering major multi-disciplinary projects, trackwork, track systems and components, and maintenance services.

AMS is a leader in rail engineering and a specialist in operations and management. We’ve planned, designed, and managed railway systems across the United States, helping our clients develop the rail industry of the future.

We serve both Class 1 and Short Line railroads through traditional contracts, alliance, and partnering arrangements. If a construction project has a rail component, AMS can build it.

AMS owns one of the largest fleets of “yellow iron” in the South and can move mountains to suit a project’s needs. With this asset, we can tightly control the start of a construction project, setting the pace and momentum for the vertical construction to follow. The owner benefits not only from a reduced schedule and budget risk, but from quality foundation and infrastructure to support the balance of the project.

AMS handles all types of demolition, from standard commercial demolition to industrial projects that require safe removal of hazardous materials. We own and maintain one of the industry’s largest fleets dedicated to structural demolition and renovation, with modern machinery well suited for the most complex demolition projects.

Demolition services include:

  • Heavy and hard demolitions
  • Partial or complete structure demolition
  • Concrete demolition and removal
  • Selective interior or exterior demolition
  • Structure removal
  • Total building interior strip-outs
  • Soft demolition
